We use a number of social media networks to communicate with residents, businesses, community groups and partners to promote the District Council’s services.
As well as Dales matters and our website, following one or more of our social networking sites is a great way to keep up-to-date with news, events and activities taking place across the Derbyshire Dales.

Following, liking and sharing
We carefully choose who we follow, like and share content from but we cannot follow, like or share everything requested or received. We sometimes follow, like or share content we think is of interest or benefit to our residents and customers, but this does not mean that we endorse the originating person or organisation.
Social media guidelines
We use social media to share information about our services, consultations, campaigns and any other council-related information. We are committed to creating a safe, polite and honest environment on our social media platforms.
The filters on our social media accounts usually pick up any unpleasant words and automatically hide those posts. If we consider comments to cause offence to members of the public and officers of the council then we will remove these. If similar comments continue to be posted by the same user then we will consider blocking that user from commenting on our posts.
We also reserve the right not to respond to anonymous social media accounts.
We will remove inflammatory, obscene, political or profane content and ban or block those users who write comments that are:
- defamatory, misleading or false
- abusive or threatening – this includes swearing
- unnecessarily name council staff or workers
- obscene, profane or sexually oriented
- discriminatory in any way
- promoting illegal activity
- promoting individual products or services
- the same message posted multiple times, otherwise known as 'spamming'
- controversial, irrelevant and off topic messages otherwise known as 'trolling'
- yours or anyone else’s personal information e.g. contact details
When we're available
Our social media pages are monitored between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, except for public holidays.
Where necessary we may need to send your question to Customer Services or to the relevant departments to find out more information. This means that it might sometimes take a while before an answer can be given.
If your query is serious, urgent, or involves personal details, please contact the relevant department using their specific contact details.
Pre-election period
In the six-week run up to an election, all councils have to very careful not to do or say anything that could be seen in any way to support any political party or candidate. This will apply to all of our social media communications. The Council will continue to publish important service announcements using social media, but may have to remove responses if they are overtly party-political during this period
