Vote for your splash pad choice!

Our teams will be available in Hall Leys Park this Thursday, 30 May, from 10am to 4pm to chat through the two splash pad designs proposed for the children's play area.

Local people are being invited to choose between two exciting multi-sensory designs for a new splash pad in our Green Flag park. Vote here.

The two splash pad designs, which have interchangeable interactive features, have come forward from a tendering process and work will start as the school summer holidays end in September, to ensure the requirement is met to spend external funding by the end of March 2025.

The District Council is moving quickly to bring the existing 15-year-old paddling pool in the park up to the required standard for it to operate from the end of next month, following essential repairs, until splash pad construction starts. This means the paddling pool will be available throughout the height of the summer season.

A District Council spokesperson said:

"We are aware of the frustrations caused by the paddling pool being unavailable during recent warm weather, but it would have been inappropriate for us to spend taxpayers' money on repairs until the tendering process was complete and we had a definite construction timetable from the successful bidder. We hope local people understand this and we thank them for their patience."

This webpage includes a link to the splash pad consultation, including videos, the splash pad survey and detailed designs.

  • Option 1 is a splash pad bursting with play value to entertain all ages up to 12 years old. The design is inspired by Hall Leys Park's boating lake, with specific areas for younger and older children.
  • Option 2 is inspired by nature and Hall Leys Park's beautiful floral setting and Green Flag status for more than 15 years. It is inclusive, interactive and multi-sensory with an area with products suitable for water play beginners and young children and an area with products that are perfect for children of approximately junior age up to 12 years old.

The consultation runs to 16 June.

External funding of £450,737 means the Green Flag town centre park will get a new splash pad, new skatepark, refurbished pathways and a new link to the White Peak Loop trail. Match funding - which is required - of £279,263 will come from the District Council's capital budget. The external funding money cannot be spent repairing an existing feature - it has to be spent on something new - so the splash pad selected in the consultation will replace the paddling pool from September onwards.

The District Council has also prepared a list of FAQs to help local people understand the decision-making process to date and going forward. Further information about the planned work to create a new skatepark and refurbished pathways will follow in the near future.
