A decision has been made this morning between Serco and Derbyshire Dales District Council to suspend all bin collections today, Tuesday 19 November.
This follows a review of Derbyshire Dales areas due to be serviced today by the Serco operations manager and site supervisors.
While main roads are clear, the sides roads are not. Bin lorries weigh up to 26 tonnes and we must consider the safety of pedestrians, property, our own crews and other vehicles when deciding if to collect during snow and icy conditions.
Residents who were due for a collection today are being advised to leave their bins out, as today's work will start to be recovered tomorrow. If crews are able to complete Tuesday's work on Wednesday, they will then make a start on the normal collection day's work. However, if this is not possible, all collections will run a day behind, meaning crews will be working this Saturday.
So the big message to residents is please continue to put your bins out on your normal collection day, but be prepared for collections happening a day later than usual.
Areas affected today include parts of Wirksworth and Ashbourne, Parwich, Thorpe, Hartington, Middleton by Wirksworth, Tissington, Biggin by Hartington, Fenny Bentley, Bradbourne, Brassington, Elton, Pikehall, Carsington, Mercaston, Turnditch, Hulland Ward, Hulland Village and Kirk Ireton.
