A civic role, the Civic Chair of the Derbyshire Dales is elected at the annual meeting of the council and serves for a civic year.
The Civic Chair wears a ceremonial chain of office at official engagements and generally represents the District Council at more than 50 functions throughout the year, organising special fund-raising events for nominated charities.
The role of Civic Chair is different from that of Chair of the District Council, which is a more strategic leadership role.
Elected as 2024/25 Civic Chair of the Derbyshire Dales was Councillor Peter Slack (pictured, left) following on from Councillor David Burton (right), whose civic year ended at the District Council's annual meeting on 23 May 2024.
Councillor Slack is using his Civic Year to raise funds for the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre, which for over 130 years has provided children across the county with a week-long holiday at a specialist residential centre on the seafront in Skegness.
Councillor David Chapman was appointed Civic Vice-Chair of the District for 2024/25.
