Matlock Dale Conservation Area is predominantly a rural area. The Conservation Area runs continuously with the boundaries of Matlock Bridge Conservation Area to the north and Matlock Bath Conservation Area to the south.
The Conservation Area includes land and buildings along the valley base which line the A6. The Conservation Area also includes Pic Tor and High Tor.
The original designation of Matlock Dale Conservation Area was in September 1972 and further amended in July 1978. No further amendments have been undertaken. It currently comprises 42.5 hectares.
Historic Assets
Within Matlock Dale Conservation Area there are 106 buildings, of which 8 are listed entries. St. John the Baptists Chapel on St. Johns Road, and Dale House 138 Dale Road, are both listed Grade II*. The remainder are listed Grade II. The listed buildings in Matlock Dale range from chapels to cottages, war memorials to inns and all are recognised for the contribution they make both individually and to the street-scene.
High Tor is included on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens (Grade II*).
Matlock Dale Conservation Area contains 1 Scheduled Monument - lead workings in High Tor Recreation Ground
Buildings at Risk
None of the listed buildings within the Matlock Dale Conservation Area are recognised by the District Council as being 'at risk'.
Article 4 Directions
There are no additional planning controls, such as an Article 4 Direction, on properties in Matlock Dale Conservation Area.
