Electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Council car parks
We currently have electric vehicle (EV) charging points in four of our car parks:
- Ashbourne – Shawcroft (7kW)
- Bakewell – New Street (7kW)
- Matlock – Edgefold Road (7kW)
- Wirksworth - Market Place (up to 22kW)
Up to eight vehicles (four EV charging points) are able to charge up in Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock at any one time. In Wirksworth there is space for two vehicles.
To charge up, motorists need to register at BP Pulse. You will be issued with a smartcard which is then swiped against a machine to unlock the electricity supply.
These EV charging points were installed using funding aimed at providing infrastructure for residents who do not have access to off-street parking. Derbyshire Dales residents can park for free using parking concession permits after 4pm and before 11am each day.
Locations of other publicly available EV charging points in the District can be found on Zap Map
What's next - future EV charging points
We recently asked residents for their views on electric vehicle (EV) charging in the district.
- 21% of our residents are planning to purchase an EV within the next 5 years
- Nearly 30% of residents identified the expense of EV as the biggest barrier to purchase, with 25% concerned that they cannot charge at home. Many residents shared locations of areas with limited or no off street parking.
- 55% of residents would prefer to charge at home if they could with 30% preferring a mix of locations
- Over 60% of residents knew where current public charge points were located.
The survey results fed into the development of an Interim Electric Vehicle Strategy which sets out Council priorities and approach for encouraging the adoption of EVs and the installation of public EV charging infrastructure in the Derbyshire Dales. As set out in the strategy the short term the Council is focusing on using the government grant funding available to us to support our residents who do not have off street parking by installing charge points in more of our car parks – we have identified 8 more where this may be possible subject to funding and technical assessments, some of which were requested by residents through the survey.
Derbyshire County Council - EV Chargepoint consultation closes 31 December 2024
The DCC Sustainable Travel team are pleased to announce the launch of Derbyshire’s Electric Vehicle charging survey.
This survey is asking for resident, business, and visitor views on electric charging infrastructure provision in the County to provide an evidence base to help identify areas of demand and subsequently inform the most suitable locations to provide EV charge points in the future, so the wider audience this can reach the better.
DCC welcome your support in promoting this survey amongst your networks.
