Derbyshire Dales District Council work in partnership with Derbyshire Law Centre to provide accessible legal advice on housing matters to residents of the Derbyshire Dales.
Derbyshire Law Centre (DLC) is a not for profit charity, established in 1989. They have a Legal Aid contract to deliver legal advice on housing matters in Derbyshire.
In addition, they deliver a number of projects which supplement the legal aid contract, aimed at helping tenants.
DLC also provide the Housing Possession Scheme at Chesterfield County Court, providing a Duty Solicitor. This is for people who have not already instructed a solicitor and is available to anyone regardless of income, enabling tenants to obtain specialist advice and representation on the day of their possession hearing.
DLC also attend court and represent borrowers in possession claims brought for mortgage arrears.
DLC are able to provide free specialist advice and assistance with the following:
- Rent / mortgage arrears
- Homelessness or becoming homeless
- Notice to quit issues
- Eviction / repossession
- Deposits and bonds
- Harassment from landlords and illegal evictions
- Discrimination by a landlord or housing provider
- Serious disrepair
- Transfers and allocations
- Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) in relation to housing matters.
The advice is free of charge for all Derbyshire residents and all who contact DLC will receive initial advice. Those that are eligible for Legal Aid funding may also be represented in cases right up to trial.
