Saturday 11th June saw the Official Grand Opening of a brand new community facility, Marston Montgomery Village Hall.
Located 8 miles outside of Ashbourne, the rural village of Marston Montgomery is a thriving local community. The Village Hall opening event saw over 100 local dignitaries, supporters, businesses and village residents in attendance.
Proceedings were led by keen community and environment advocate Sir Richard Fitzherbert, Baronet of the Tissington Estate. Guests enjoyed welcome drinks whilst listening to Sir Richard talk about the project, before heading outside for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and planting of an oak tree to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. In declaring the Hall officially open, Sir Richard congratulated everyone on the undoubted teamwork and community spirit that goes into the making of successful ventures such as this.
Speeches to mark the special occasion were made by Village Hall Chairman Mike Thackery, Will Thomson of development company Radmore Homes, and Derbyshire Dales MP Sarah Dines.
Village Hall Committee Treasurer Matthew Bates led a speech of thanks in recognition of all the hard work and financial support that had gone into the project:
“We’d like to thank the Buckley family for the land, Will Thomson and his construction team, financial supporters Derbyshire CVS, Foundation Derbyshire, National Lottery: Awards for All, Marston Montgomery Arts Society, Marston Montgomery Primary School and Derbyshire Dales District Council, our many brick sponsors both commercial and private, members of the village community for your support and input and finally my fellow members of the management committee. Without all of you this would not have happened. Your time, skills and funding has allowed us to provide not just a building but a community facility that far exceeds our expectations.”
The new facility has been designed to deliver everything the modern rural community needs. The state-of-the-art, fully accessible facility comprises of a large function room, a meeting room, and a fully equipped kitchen.
Designed with large events in mind, the spacious function room is bright, airy and perfect for weddings, parties, sports classes and community activities. This flexible space comes complete with blackout blinds and a high-spec audio visual system.
The more intimate meeting room has been designed to cater for smaller activities, social gatherings and corporate meetings, and features its own presentation screen. For larger events this space can be opened out into the main function room, providing the perfect buffet or bar area.
The hall has also been equipped with a large kitchen, which was planned in consultation with both community groups and professional caterers to ensure the facilities would meet the needs of every occasion from a local club meeting to an externally catered wedding.
Mike Thackery, Chairman of Marston Montgomery Village Hall, said
“We’d like to thank everyone who celebrated the Grand Opening with us. It was wonderful to have such a special occasion to mark the opening of a truly fantastic community facility. We look forward to welcoming many more residents and businesses from Marston Montgomery and the surrounding areas to the hall over the coming years.”
