More fun runs for the Dales!

We're building on the success of fun runs staged in two of our major parks early this year.

Further family-friendly 3k "walk, jog, wheel, run" events will take place on Saturday 26 March in our Bakewell Recreation Ground and the following Saturday, 2 April, in Wirksworth, starting from the National Stone Centre.

Both events start at 10am and participants can sign up now.

Our Sports Development Team are working with GetActiveLocally.co.uk to make the events happen for all ages and abilities.

The initiative is made possible by the Welcome Back Fund', administered by the District Council, which uses European Regional Development Fund cash provided by the Government to help high streets recover from the pandemic.

There's a small entry fee of £2.50 that includes a bottle of water and a medal - and the money will be reinvested into local parks.

In January hundreds took part in identical events in Matlock’s Hall Leys Park and Ashbourne Recreation Ground.

The District Council's Community Development Manager Becky Bryan said:

"The events in Matlock and Ashbourne were fantastic and we were delighted that so many people took the opportunity to get outside and get active with family and friends.

“These events prove that exercise doesn’t have to be boring – especially when the Derbyshire Dales has so many beautiful parks and green spaces.”
