Hall Leys Park footbridge - work to start soon

Work to repair extensive rot in the bearing timbers supporting the deck of the Matlock Hall Leys Park footbridge will start in the next fortnight.

While this is slightly later than hoped, it has given us the opportunity to complete the resurfacing of the Sensory Gardens paths before the bridge re-opens on the weekend of 19/20 February, minimising inconvenience to users of this popular pedestrian route.

The bridge was inspected last week by a structural engineer who will oversee the repairs to the bridge according to their specification.

Further works to the bridge structure will be necessary next financial year, which will unfortunately require a further period of closure. We will try to minimise this, hopefully at a time which causes least inconvenience, though will need to be guided by bodies such as the Environment Agency as to when these works can take place.
