Heat health alert

On Monday morning (19 July) the Met Office has just increased the heat health alert for the East Midlands from Level 2 to Level 3 from 0000 tomorrow (Tuesday) until 0900 on Thursday.

See more information here.

This stage requires social and healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups.

The key advice is:

☀ Look out for others, especially older people, young children and babies and those with underlying health conditions.
☀ Close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors.
☀ Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol, dress appropriately for the weather and slow down when it is hot.
☀ Advice on how to reduce the risk can be obtained from the Heatwave Plan for England page at www.gov.uk/government/publications/heatwave-plan-for-england from your doctor or local chemist, or ring NHS 111.
