Special meeting to discuss Traveller family

Watch again the broadcast of a special meeting of our Community & Environment Committee  on 10 December that was updated in respect of a Gypsy and Traveller family who have presented themselves as homeless.

Councillors were asked to determine an appropriate course of action to discharge the Council’s statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

The meeting voted 12-4 to accept legal duties & responsibilities to Gypsies and Travellers, agreeing to the provision of a temporary tolerated site on land at Matlock Bath Station Car Park, pending the identification of a more appropriate, permanent solution.
