We are pleased to have handed over the keys to the public toilets in Hall Leys Park play area to Matlock Town Council who plan to reopen them next year.
Mayor Councillor Helen Legood, Councillor Sue Burfoot and Councillor Brian Smith receiving the keys from Mike Galsworthy (DDDC Estates and Facilities Manager) and Mark Wooller (DDDC Estates and Facilities Officer)
With our ongoing support, Matlock Town Council intends to undertake simple refurbishments in order to get the toilets back open as soon as possible. In the longer term more substantial works will be carried out to improve the facilities for those who live in and visit Matlock.
Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said:
"It is good news indeed that, with our encouragement, local town and parish councils such as Matlock, which are not restricted, as we are, in the way they can increase Council Tax, have jumped in to take responsibility for their local toilets.
"We have also been delighted in this case to help make the transfer of the play area facility in Hall Leys Park happen by making a significant financial contribution to the Town Council."
Matlock Mayor, Councillor Helen Legood said:
“I feel passionate about ensuring that these well used toilets in our beautiful park are reopened. We are excited to start work as soon as possible on the refurbishments. In taking over ownership of the toilets we are proud to have responded to the wishes of our community and look forward to working with the people of Matlock to ensure we have this much needed provision for many years to come”
Matlock Town Council welcomes any comments on the project.
