Your District Council has played a key role in the completion by Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) of 33 new homes at Ward Close in Wirksworth.
Staying true to the ecological background of the site, with a specialist bat house, the new development comprises 20 affordable rent homes and 13 shared ownership properties, meeting the demand for more affordable housing in this area of the Derbyshire Dales.
NCHA held their official opening last week (5 July) in aid of the National Housing Federation's rural housing campaign, showcasing the new development to local council officials and representatives from Westleigh Homes, giving all the opportunity to meet local residents.
Councillor Lewis Rose OBE, Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, said:
“This is an exciting partnership with NCHA and Westleigh and we have been delighted to nurture this particular project from the very start of the process, with much hard work by our housing and planning teams.
“Affordable housing remains one of our top priorities, which is why we have supported this development to the tune of £250,000 to help make it happen - and it is great to see all 33 homes on Ward Close already occupied on this first class site.
“We will continue to work hard in the current year to help deliver a further 100 affordable homes for local people, working in partnership with much valued social housing providers such as NCHA.”
Allan Fisher, NCHA Development and Sales Director, said:
“Partnership working with Westleigh Homes and Derbyshire Dales has enabled us to successfully develop this area of Wirksworth, lifting it from a state of disrepair to a fresh scheme, consistent with the surrounding environment, where local people want to live.
“With every project we take on there are challenges to overcome during the development process, but it’s great to see the finished product and celebrate with those involved.”
The development, made possible due to funding from Homes England and Derbyshire Dales District Council, continues to add to NCHA’s rural housing stock in the Derbyshire area, alongside nearby Kingsfield Court, contributing to their goal of building over 300 new homes each year.
