The spotlight will shine again this year on individuals and groups that make a real difference to the sporting life of the Derbyshire Dales.
Nominations are open now in 18 categories for the 2016 Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Awards - and it’s easier than ever to put forward the name of local sporting heroes.
Chairman of the District Council’s Community & Environment Committee, Councillor Jo Wild said:
“Eleven years on from the inaugural Derbyshire Dales Sports Awards, this prestigious event keeps getting better.
“Once again we’re encouraging local people to nominate for recognition Dales sporting heroes – and that could be a new club or team or a new facility that has been developed or improved.”
Nominations should be for people who live in the Derbyshire Dales, compete in the district or attend clubs or schools here.
Councillor Wild added:
“We welcome nominations from all walks of life, sports clubs, parish councils, schools, leagues, coaches, parents and from athletes themselves.”
Individuals, clubs and organisations in the Derbyshire Dales that win at district level go forward to the county sports awards.
The closing date for nominations is 9 September 2015 and the shortlisted nominations will be invited to attend an awards evening in Matlock in October. A selection of the winners will also be invited to the Derby Telegraph Sports Awards.
