Programmed inspections

An annual programme of inspections is undertaken based on a National Risk Rating Scheme. Higher risk businesses are inspected more frequently than lower risk businesses. Inspections are generally carried out without appointment in order to get a true picture of what is happening on a day to day basis. Some low risk businesses do not receive an inspection and may be asked to complete a self assessment questionnaire.

Most inspections will be "topic based" and will focus on those activities known to cause the most injury and ill health at work these are:

  • workplace transport
  • falls from height
  • musculoskeletal disorders
  • slips and trips
  • stress

We will also advise business owners of any other areas of concern at the time of the inspection.
