While the Recreation Ground is a great centre for activity, the adjoining Memorial Gardens is for relaxation. Ashbourne Memorial Gardens are dedicated to those who died for their country. Look out also for the statue commemorating the life of Catherine Booth, co-founder of the Salvation Army, who was born in Ashbourne.
The formal gardens, fringing Cokayne Avenue and Park Road, are offset by the open spaces of Fishpond Meadow, accessed via two river bridges.
Below is a list of Local sporting organisations that use the District Council's Recreation Ground. This includes a sports pavilion, a bowling green, cricket pitch, two football pitches, a junior football pitch and rugby pitch.
The District Council's main Ashbourne public conveniences - rebuilt in the summer of 2011 - are situated in the Shaw Croft car park.
Derbyshire Dales District Council appreciates your help in caring for the Recreation Ground and Memorial Gardens. Enjoy the play and recreation facilities and please use the litter bins and look after the trees, plants and play equipment. Thank you.
